Round 7 reviews from our roving reporter Theresa

True to the spirit of the sun beckoning the Golf4fun tournaments this year, the final tournament held in Walkirch was blessed with perfect weather. A solid 66 participants registered for the final, definitely setting the record to date.

Waldkirch offers a lot of variety for a golfer with an array of four 9 hole courses to select from. Our play for the day was the yellow and red course with the first tee taking off smoothly at 10am. The season’s leather golf glove sponsored by TLC was a welcome start to the day, replacing many old and worn gloves which took their fatal spot in the trashcan, together with another 3 golf balls and an array of bars for added energy.

Given the solid attendance of the golf4fun tournaments over the year and a number of people diligently continuing to practise, the quality of the golf seems to have picked up. Alas, for some, net scores of below 25 stableford points still appear too regularly… nonetheless with a clear blue sky and no hint of wind, delicious food and good company, the day was enjoyable to all regardless of the end result and will remain particularly memorable as the last tournament following a very successful outdoor season.

With the last tee off time at 1pm, the early starters had ample time to enjoy a number of drinks on the terrace as the golfers streamed in… Not long after the final three-ball finished their round, the club served the delicious and eagerly awaited apero. What a great spread of delicacies which was very welcomed by all the golfers after a long and enjoyable day on the field.

With our generous array of sponsors, prize-giving was a fun and enjoyable experience with many prizes given out not only in merit of excellent golf play. Alas, the e-bike sponsored by Raleigh for the first hole-in-one of the tournament remains the only prize unclaimed to date…. and remains the challenge and ultimate victory for the year ahead.

Special mention goes to the winners of the season where the top 4 of the season’s 6 tournaments are tallied…… Alison topped the Brutto leaderboard while after a hotly contested season between Marion and Juergen, Juergen was crowned King Tiger. Freddie for his 2nd year running was crowned our King Rabbit.

All in all, it was a great season, with good spirit, companionship and enjoyable golf. Thanks for Nora for her continuous dedication, energy and enthusiasm in arranging the tournaments so successfully and thanks to all our generous sponsors which make the day even more fun to attend.

Alas, time flies… and with the days getting slowly shorter and temperatures creeping inexorably lower, we wait in eager anticipation for next year when we can resume with the outdoor season once again, with hope that the sun will continue to shine.
